Description:
The Massachusetts Colony General Court granted permission in 1652 to have die prepared for silver coinage. The first coins in the series were the New England (NE) coinage, Shilling, Sixpence and Threepence. The obverse of the New England series has NE struck on the obverse and a Roman numeral on the reverse designating the valuation of the coin (XII for the Shilling, VI for the sixpence, and III for the threepence). The New England silver coins were only produced for three months in 1652 due to clipping and counterfeiting so the design was replaced with the Willow Tree Coinage series. The original coins are extremely rare so these coins would make a great addition to your Colonial America coin collection. Diameter: 28 mm The reverse of the coin is stamped with the word copy.
Features:
Exact reproduction of the original coin.
Great educational piece for numismatic coin collecting.
First coin struck in the 13 Colonies for use in Colonial America.
Silver plated lead free fine pewter made in the USA.
The original coins are extremely rare and worth $335,000.
